Few days back during Google I/O event Google launched the Android M Developer Preview, but this was only limited to its Nexus devices. Now Sony become the second mobile company to release Android M Developer preview for its phones and tablet, that are part of its open device program.
Android M is going to be the upcoming version of Android which comes with refined user interface and lots of optimization under the hood. Google expected to release the final version of Android M later this year. In the mean time users can enjoy Android M by flashing developer preview builds.
Its more than a month that Nexus users are getting these preview build of Android M. Sony also doing the same thing and provided chances to all Xperia owner to try the upcoming version of Android i.e. Android M. Basically these preview builds are based on AOSP, that means user will get pure stock experience with no custom modifications from Sony.
In case you want to try these preview builds on Android M on your Xperia device, you need to keep few things in mind:
- You need to unlock the bootloader to flash Android M Developer Preview on your Xperia device.
- These Build are not safe and just for testing purpose
- You won’t be able to make phone calls, connect to mobile data and take picture, because Sony didn’t added modem and camera on the firmware.
Not all the Xperia devices are lucky enough to enjoy the Android M Developer Preview, if your Xperia device is listed as part of Sony Open Device program. Check out the below list of all the supported devices:
